🍂 Picture This…

Picture this: a crisp autumn evening and your home all set for a cozy night in. You.. with your feet propped up, your best pumpkin vanilla candle flickering and chili in the crockpot. Has anyone every told you, you’re crushing this homeowner thing?!  Well, you are! If if you need a little help, keep reading. We got this!

Fall is the perfect time to prep your space for those magical nights, where a little maintenance leads to a lot of comfort. Here’s your step-by-step guide to getting your home—and yourself—ready for the ultimate fall night!

First things first… Let’s get that chili going in the crock pot! Whether it’s classic beef, spicy chicken, or a hearty vegetarian mix. Let it simmer on the stove while you tackle some things around the house. I’ve found that if you don’t just set aside a day this stuff never gets done!

Next…

  • Check Your Furnace: Make sure your furnace is in top shape for those chilly nights ahead. I recommend having a professional service it twice a year. I have a great recommendation for this, just reach out! At least change the filter and test it out now so you’re not left in the cold later.

  • Seal the Drafts: Walk around your windows and doors and feel for any drafts. A quick fix with some weather stripping or caulk can make your home instantly warmer and more energy-efficient.

  • Clear the Gutters: A quick gutter check can prevent any surprises when the fall rain hits. Clear out leaves and debris to keep things flowing smoothly.

  • Test Smoke & CO Detectors: Keep your home safe by testing your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors. Replace the batteries if needed, so you can relax without worry.

  • Drain and turn off outdoor water sources to prevent freezing and pipe bursts. This one can be the biggest pain. Don’t miss it. Oh and insulate any exposed pipes to avoid freezing!

Shoo, that’s a full days work! Time to head to your favorite home store. Now this doesn’t have to be expensive but I promise it’s the little things. Grab yourself a plush fall throw, a scented candle, and a few fun seasonal decorations to reward yourself.

Slip into your comfiest clothes, scoop up a bowl of that chili, grab that blanket, and find your spot on the couch. Whether you’re catching up on a show or just enjoying the quiet, this is your time to fully embrace the season.

If you need any help with your fall home maintenance or just want to share your favorite chili recipe, I’m always here to chat!
