Ohhh... This is good.

Did you know you can recycle your Christmas Tree?? In fact, it’s the only responsible thing to do seeing as though we cut them down! Even though trees are biodegradable, they won’t improve the environment by sitting in a trash pile.

Recycled Christmas Trees can be used to create mulch or fertilizer for public parks and playgrounds. It can serve as fish feeders in private ponds, or even be used as barriers on hiking trails. Most recycling programs can offer insights into where the tree will go after it is picked up, either through their website or on community forums.

The time frame of tree donation programs may vary from city to city so call beforehand. Typically, Christmas tree removal takes place after the New Year and can run through January.

Here are some places I found:

  • Texas Disposal Systems (TDS): TDS offers free Christmas tree recycling at various collection sites through January 31. Trees are turned into organic mulch and compost, available for purchase at Garden-Ville stores throughout Central Texas.

  • Houston: The city provides multiple drop-off locations for Christmas tree recycling, including the Central Neighborhood Depository and the Kirkpatrick Neighborhood Depository.

  • Dallas: Residents of Dallas can drop off undecorated, natural Christmas trees at City of Dallas Transfer Stations until February 3. Be sure to remove all lights, tinsel, and decorations before dropping off.

Hope that helps!!
